About me
Hello!
I'm Samantha Baylis, thanks for visiting my website! Excited you are taking the time to get to know me and my passions. I create jewelry, stickers, fiber art, sculptures and more.
I also provide face paint services. I am excited to share with you a little bit about me and my journey thus far.
I chose the name Space Soup Studio because the concept sparked many ideas right away. Some of the more abstract reasons are that space is so mysterious and awe inspiring. When I thought of the name space soup I pictured a tin can opened up to reveal a galaxy. An idea of vast infinite possibilities all being held and contained in a small vessel, ready to be shared with others. Soup is also comforting and nostalgic for every culture. It is one of the the oldest and universal foods. It was also an added plus that I thought it sounded cute and I like alliteration
Since I was a small child I was sculpting, drawing and painting. I always said when I grow up that I was going to be an artist. When I attended college I was deterred from going just for art and followed another path that would be a "better career." After college I didn't feel a calling to my chosen career path, I ended up working service industry jobs and being miserable. I have not made this public online knowledge yet, but you are here to get to know me so here is my story. I have a genetic health problem that makes it difficult to work a traditional job without being in unbearable pain. For many years I have pushed myself to tears at numerous establishments, not knowing what was wrong with me trying to ignore my pain and act like everything was fine.
On a lighter note, However, with support from my husband I have decided to turn my situation into a positive one. My "problems" have now drove me back to doing what I truly love. It is truly a blessing in disguise. No matter how bad I feel I can still do digital work or sit at my art table and produce items that bring me joy so that I can share that joy with others. I also have more energy for the active hobbies I have always enjoyed like hiking, swimming and hula hooping. I hope that this website can help me share my journey and projects with you for years to come.
I have big dreams for the future, I dream to open a large studio where my family can work and share their artistic gifts with the world as well. A place where someday the community can take classes and I can help others with pain and mobility issues learn comfortable ways to create things that bring them joy and personal accomplishment. I also provide face painting services to bring happiness and excitement to events in the area. I love sharing my art in many ways, I plan to keep a blog here and keep you updated through the years. Thank you for any purchases you make and any support you give as it helps me continue to create and share my art and work towards these goals. <3
